Practice at Home First

We recommend trying these chemicals out at home before using them in the field. Getting a feel for dosing, mixing, and settling on water you understand makes it much easier to diagnose problems later, when it actually matters.

A scale that measures in hundredths of a gram (0.01 g) is very helpful. The included scoop is reasonably accurate for a roughly 1 g dose of PFS, but it's far less accurate for the smaller quantities of the other chemicals.

Most Issues Are pH-Related

The most common issues you're likely to encounter come down to pH. If you're not getting results, try adding a pH modifier first, then add more of the coagulant or flocculant.

It's very easy to overdose. Adding too much coagulant doesn't just fail to help — it can flip the particles' surface charge and cause charge reversal / restabilization, which is the opposite of the destabilization you're trying to achieve. If more product makes things worse instead of better, you've likely overshot the dose — back off and re-check pH before trying again.
