Hazard Overview

Poly Ferric Sulfate is acidic in solution and is generally treated as a skin, eye, and respiratory irritant rather than a highly toxic or flammable material. Dust or concentrated solution can irritate eyes and skin on contact, and inhaling dust can irritate the nose, throat, and airways. Solutions may stain skin, clothing, and porous surfaces a rust-orange color. It is not classified as flammable or explosive under normal use.

First Aid Measures

  • Eye contact: Flush immediately with clean water for at least 15 minutes, lifting eyelids. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
  • Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Seek medical attention if breathing difficulty or irritation persists.
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth and seek medical attention.

Handling & Storage

Store in a cool, dry place in a tightly closed container, away from strong bases and reactive metals. Avoid generating dust. Use non-metallic or corrosion-resistant scoops and containers where practical, since acidic solutions can corrode some metals over time. Keep away from food and drinking water.

Spill & Disposal

Sweep or scoop up dry material and place in a suitable container for disposal. Small spilled solutions can be diluted with water and neutralized before disposal per local regulations. Do not discharge concentrated solution directly to storm drains or waterways.
